SEMPERGEIST is a voice-based AI coaching platform supporting veterans in the symbolic and psychological work of reintegration. It addresses a deep crisis in veteran mental health: the loss of meaning, identity, and narrative coherence many experience after service.Traditional evidence-based treatments often struggle to reach the complexity of moral and existential injury. SEMPERGEIST offers an alternative.Grounded in Dr. Dennis Stevens' book Sacred Descent of the Warrior, the platform combines therapeutic narrative design with agentic AI voice technology to help veterans restore inner authority, coherence, and purpose. It delivers culturally fluent, 24/7 support that is especially vital for the majority of veterans who avoid clinical care.We’ve developed a minimum viable product based on the book and are now ready to gather early-stage feedback from veteran service organizations (VSOs) and the Veterans Administration (VA).Our goal is to co-design a research-backed pilot and formal VA partnership to evaluate an AI-integrated therapeutic model. Delivered via an interactive phone platform, the program will include usability testing, IRB approval, and collaboration with VA–VSO networks to assess outcomes.The 12-session protocol targets symptoms such as anhedonia, hopelessness, isolation, and impaired functioning, as defined by DSM-aligned criteria. This model translates narrative, symbolic, and emotional repair into measurable clinical impact.
